"The Trial in Kassel"

Film

“unitednationsplaza is exhibition as school” – this quotation describes the aim Anton Vidokle wanted to achieve at the temporary art academy he founded in Berlin in October of last year. Over 60 other renowned international artists, authors and theoreticians participated in this limited project. Since discussion and research are not necessarily part of an exhibition, the initiators of unitednationsplaza would like to point out that this is intended as an “alternative” model exhibition, a forum for a critical discourse on politics, contemporary art and the theory of public events.

For one evening the “unitednationsplaza” is to be transferred to Kassel. The Kunstvereinsheim will present the film “The Trial in Kassel”, initiated by Anton Vidokle and Tirdad Zolghadr on the occasion of the fifth International Contemporary Art Experts Forum at ARCO, Madrid. In the form of a trial Anton Vidokle and Tirdad Zolghadr are charged with claiming “secret agreement with the bourgeoisie and other serious accusations”. Further protagonists are well-known personalities from the world of art, among others: Jan Verwoert, critic and editor of Frieze Magazine, Charles Esche, director of the Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven, Vasif Kortun, director of Platform Garanti, Istanbul, and Chus Marinez, director of the Frankfurt Art Society. “The Trial in Kassel” was filmed and directed by Hila Peleg, curator from Berlin.
