Every five years, the Kasseler Kunstverein hands over its rooms in the Fridericianum to the great dame documenta and chooses a temporary home. In 2007, the year of the documenta 12, this will be a former street café on Karlsplatz, in the centre of the city, situated on the footpath between the documenta venues Museum Fridericianum and Neue Galerie.

This new venue for the Kasseler Kunstverein will be the "Kasseler Kunstvereinsheim" from the start of June to the end of September. Two evenings a week, the Kasseler Kunstverein will show a special artistic programme. Artists will be invited to appear once each at the "Kasseler Kunstvereinsheim" in order to turn the venue into a performance room, a "very brief exhibition", a stage or a dance studio, a lecture and discussion room or anything else. More than 40 artists in over 40 events, mainly young positions, will be to see, who can start something special with this particular artistic "appearance".

All these events will be recorded on a video camera and shown as documentation over the remaining days. The order of events will be announced each month in a programme. All of the events in the "Kasseler Kunstvereinsheim" should be compiled and documented in a catalogue in autumn 2007. A webcam will be set up via which the ongoing events will be constantly streamed on the Internet.

In addition, the "Kasseler Kunstvereinsheim" will be open every day and provide a meeting point. Drinks and snacks can be bought at the bar. Visitors to the city, members of the art society and strollers meet at the edge of the documenta 12 and talk with each other - and not just about art.

The Kasseler Kunstverein completely rearranges the rooms of the "Kasseler Kunstvereinsheim" to be used in accordance with the individual concept.
