Jörn Peters (D)

"Die Bibliothek"

Installation

For his photographs and video installations, Jörn Peters chooses places in which the objects seem to have completely lost their original functional meaning, places such as an attic which harbours broken table legs, for example, or an abandoned construction site with window frames lying about.
He puts a significant amount of physical energy into these places, so that his pose draws a completely new movement from him and allows him to hover over them. The room serves to limit the space around his photographs, space in which his body as well as the objects become constructive elements of the picture. The camera takes the initiative in this construction.
In his video sound installation "Ich mein was wir uns vorstellen" (2006), it is a complete set of appliances such as a monitor, an amplifier, a DVD player and loudspeakers that occupies the room as the performing body on the one hand, but on the other hand becomes part of the architecture it is actually bound to with straps. This conflict is enhanced to become a dialectic cramp when, every hour, a text is suddenly and unexpectedly shouted out.
